Havana will host FITCuba 2019.

FITCuba 2018 fulfilled its mission and surpassed all expectations, said the Minister of Tourism of Cuba, Manuel Marrero Cruz, when the Fair was closed.


FITCuba 2018, which this year proposed the relaunching of Cayo Santa María – the Cuban tourist destination most affected by the devastating passage of Hurricane Irma in September last year – fulfilled its mission and surpassed all expectations, said Saturday. Minister of Tourism of Cuba, Manuel Marrero Cruz, when closing the International Tourism Fair in the Plaza Las Terrazas of the enclave itself.
“It has been four days of intense and fruitful negotiations. So much so, that I would dare to describe this fair as one of the best we have done so far, “said Minister Marrero in his closing remarks.

The fair gathered on this occasion 3 thousand 319 representatives of the tourism industry from 62 countries, in addition to 178 journalists from several major media. Among the most numerous delegations, Spain, the United States, Mexico and the United Kingdom stood out as the guest of honor in this year’s edition.

Minister Manuel Marrero explained to those present the main agreements and achievements of FITCuba 2018. The most outstanding are:

· The FTI Group of Germany signed an agreement for the management of hotels in Cuba and position, as of next winter, a plane for the realization of daily flights between Santa Clara and Europe.

· The lease of flights for the improvement of air connections within the country.

· The signing of a letter of intent between Louvre Hotels of France and Cubanacán for the administration of all hotels operated by the Cuban receptive in Sagua la Grande.

· Incorporation of all European tour operators, specialized in circuits, of all the hotels in Santa Clara, Remedios and Sagua la Grande in the catalogs for next winter.

· The signing of a contract between Iberostar and Gaviota for the administration and management of the Packard hotel in Havana, which will open its doors in the coming month of August.

As is traditional, Minister Marrero took the opportunity to announce that the edition of FITCuba 2019 will be hosted in Havana, in the same year that the great Cuban city will reach its 500th anniversary, while Spain was selected as the guest country honorary.

“We are pleased to announce that the Organizing Committee of FITCuba proposed, and thus was approved, to dedicate the fair next year, as the guest of honor, to Spain,” announced Mr. Marrero, who invited the ambassador of that country to Cuba, the His Excellency Mr. Juan José Buitrago de Benito, to receive the certificate that accredits that condition of the Iberian nation for FITCuba 2019.

“I want to try to convey the gratitude that I feel at this moment, and it is not personal gratitude, but the government of Spain, for this designation that we will try to honor with great professionalism and, especially, with great affection,” Ambassador Buitrago said in his words acceptance. Finally, the head of the Ministry of Tourism of Cuba informed those present that next year’s edition of the International Tourism Fair, which as previously reported will be based in Havana, will be dedicated to event and incentive tourism, known as MICE by its acronym in English.
